In 2013 after the birth of her son my daughter unexpectly required a life saving liver transplant. After reviewing the results of a blood test Dr Walbrook sent her immediately to The Princess Royal who then transfered her to Kings College Hospital Liver Unit. She was very lucky to receive a donor organ and after the life saving care from Kings she is now under the ongoing care of the Meads Surgery. Words cannot express my true thanks for their support, appointment availability and excellent continuining healthcare. Dr Duckworth, Dr Walbrook and the other doctors are always available for advice whenever needed. We are very lucky to be patients at such a well run, caring surgery. p.s Never forgetting the wonderful nurses and the receptionists

I had symptoms of cystitis appear very rapidly on Friday morning and I was due to go away to a wedding in the afternoon. The receptionist advised me to bring in a specimen and within 2 hours they had faxed a prescription to the pharmacy so I was able to go away. Many thanks for the prompt and efficient treatment.

I am not impressed with the decision to change the sit and wait. I think that sit and wait needed to have more structure. Time slots would have been better than asking everyone to turn up at 9am and wait until the clinic started at gone 12. I feel that if every doctor had atleast 2/3 timeslots they could see an urgent that it would run more smoothly. As I work within the NHs myself I know this system works. The new urgent care system is ridiculous, just today I phoned to book an appointment for my 2 year old daughter only to be told the next bookable appointment isnt until the 29th Sept.The receptionist suggested that a prescription will be ready for me to collect this afternoon following the opportunity I have to explain what I THINK is wrong with my daugher over the phone to a paramedic. I think it absolutely disgusting that antibiotics can be prescribed without being seen by a doctor. I dont know for sure that my daugher has a throat infection that can be treated with antibiotics it may be flu like systems. I strongly feel that this system needs to go.

Unless you can foresee a problem 1-2 weeks in advance, or can wait that long to be seen, the only alternative is to go to the urgent care clinic and sit in a packed waiting area with lots of germs flying around. This system doesn't work if you have a school drop off to do first as by the time you get there you often find there are 20+ people waiting in front of you. It has no triage so an unwell cancer patient or young infant can find themselves waiting for up to 3 hours to be seen. Getting past the receptionists to speak to a doctor or nurse is difficult, even if you have 'open access'. There is no recognition or understanding of individual circumstances. However, once you get to see the doctors or nurse practitioner, almost all of them are sympathetic & caring & good at their job.

The Meads benefits from very friendly, cheerful and helpful receptionists, caring GPs and nurses and a modern surgery with a pharmacy attached. The teething problems with the 'sit and wait' for urgent care same day appointments now seem to have been ironed out. I have no hesitation in recommending this practice to my family and friends.
